Healthcare Barometer 2010 - A survey of 100 professionals in the private sector

13 September 2010

The 2010 Healthcare Industry Barometer, produced by HealthInvestor and Nabarro, has recently been completed.

The survey asks 100 professionals in the private sector for their views on a range of issues, such as the expansion of the role of the private sector in the NHS, levels of M&A activity and competition in primary and secondary care markets. This is the third year that the survey has been conducted and results are compared in order to assess how opinions are changing from year to year.

Findings of note this year include:

  • professionals surveyed feel overwhelmingly that the Co-operation and Competition Panel has not improved competition in the NHS
  • budgetary pressures in the NHS are likely to boost demand for private care provision over the next two years
  • healthcare M&A activity is unlikely to return to pre-credit crunch levels until 2012 or later
