Nabarro acts for Land Securities on new format of John Lewis store

19 May 2009

Demonstrating its expertise in the real estate sector, Nabarro LLP has advised commercial property investor, and longstanding client of the firm, Land Securities Group PLC on an agreement for lease of a 45,000 sq ft unit to John Lewis Partnership.

The agreement will enable the John Lewis Partnership to use the space to launch its new trading format, focusing on home furnishings and electrical goods. The deal, which exchanged in just four weeks from start to finish, allows John Lewis to open the store in Poole to consumers by autumn.

The Nabarro team was led by senior associate Clare Thomas and associate Robyn Oppenheimer. John Lewis Partnership was advised by Eversheds.

Commenting on the deal, Clare said, “Land Securities is a longstanding and valued client of the firm and completing this deal for the company has been a great experience for the Nabarro team, not least because it is to assist a well-known brand such as John Lewis to launch its newest trading format. The retailer has experienced a slow down in current developments due to various regional developers dropping projects, so to see this deal through for our client is significant for both parties.”
