Nabarro LLP has advised Derbyshire County Council on its Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. This is the sixth BSF project completed by Nabarro for a local authority, and the second in the last two weeks.
BSF is the Government's secondary schools renewal programme, which aims to rebuild or refurbish every one of England's 3,500 state secondary schools over a ten to fifteen year period. The programme is being rolled out in 15 planned waves, this project is part of the third wave.
Derbyshire County Council formed a Local Education Partnership (LEP) joint venture with investment house Equitix to rebuild/refurbish around 50 secondary schools in the county. The project has an initial budget spend of £70m.
The project includes the provision of long-term building maintenance for the schools and the provision of a managed ICT service for a ten-year period. The agreement also includes the construction of wind crofts in Scotland, which would "offset" the gap in carbon reduction targets for the three sample schools.
David Shaw, project director at Derbyshire comments: "I am really pleased to have reached the financial close of this project. We have valued the advice and guidance received from Nabarro and look forward to working with our new partners in the programme in Derbyshire."
Stephen Matthew, partner at Nabarro comments: "It was great to have worked for Derbyshire County Council on this BSF programme. It is a large and complex project and includes innovative solutions. This is the sixth BSF project closed by Nabarro. The team has a depth of experience which enables us to advise on all elements of BSF, including construction, PFI, banking and ICT."
Nabarro was appointed by Derbyshire County Council following a competitive tendering process and has been working on the project since 2006. CMS Cameron McKenna advised Equitix and Addleshaw Goddard advised Nationwide and MITIE.
