10 December 2010

Nabarro LLP acted for Employees Provident Fund (EPF) of Malaysia, advised by ING Real Estate Investment Management, on the acquisition of 40 Portman Square, from European fund manager Aerium.

Nabarro advised EPF on the acquisition of units in the Jersey property unit trust which owned 40 Portman Square, London W1. The 122,403 sq ft office block over six floors, to the north of Oxford Street, was extensively refurbished in the last two years and also includes an additional two floors consisting of 20 residential apartments.

The Nabarro team was led by real estate partner Ciaran Carvalho, with assistance from associates Stewart Womersley, Hugh Picton-Phillips, Clare Thomas, Matthew Barnes, Lindsey Elliott, Phil Anderson, Alistair McGrigor, Paul Heathfield and Rebecca Day. Other partners involved were funds and indirect real estate partners Jonathan Cantor and Amanda Howard, and tax partner Simon Rose. Aerium was advised by Clifford Chance.

Ciaran Carvalho real estate partner at Nabarro commented: "We are extremely pleased to be working with new client EPF, and very much hope to have further opportunities to work with them again in future. This is one of many London transactions the firm has been involved in recently. The real estate investment market in London at the prime end remains active with plenty of capital looking for suitable opportunities. Whilst uncertainty still exists over parts of the UK, there seems to be a growing amount of confidence about London and its future prospects and particularly from overseas investors".
