Nabarro LLP has advised European Land & Property Limited on their plans to develop Merchant Square, formerly the Grand Union and Winding Buildings, located on the eastern side of Paddington Basin. This development is part of the wider regeneration of the Paddington basin area. To date, more than 1.1 million sq ft of commercial space has been delivered, bringing thirty new companies to the vicinity.
The 1.8 million sq ft Merchant Square development comprises three office buildings and three residential buildings on a major public square with a variety of shops and restaurants, next to Paddington Basin. Also included within the development is a community facility, a crèche and a large health club.
Planning partner Joshua Risso-Gill, assisted by real estate senior associate Sergio Vella and planning associate Nicola Insley, led the Nabarro team that negotiated the Section 106 Agreements.
Brian Hurwitz and Denise Stephenson of Sharpe Pritchard acted for Westminster City Council. Nigel Hewitson of Norton Rose advised British Waterways Board.
Joshua said: "We were delighted to advise European Land & Property on achieving the complete set of planning permissions for one of the most challenging and significant mixed-use developments in London. The planning agreements will secure regeneration and infrastructure improvements such as to the Edgware Road Underground Station and a host of community benefits including a business opportunity centre."
