Nabarro advises Hammerson in securing planning consent for its Eastgate Quarters scheme in Leeds

6 September 2011

Nabarro has advised Hammerson plc on the successful planning application for the £600m Eastgate Quarters scheme in Leeds.

The one million sq ft retail-led mixed use development, anchored by John Lewis, will transform a 17-acre brownfield site on the edge of Leeds city centre and will also feature a two-storey shopping arcade, a civic square as well as the restoration of historic buildings, along with a low carbon energy centre.

Planning partner, Christopher Stanwell, led the project with assistance from Jemma Gregory. James Madden and Rob Raimes provided real estate advice.

Commenting on the decision, Christopher commented:

"We are proud to work with Hammerson to achieve consent for this significant regeneration project for Leeds. It will deliver innovative and sustainable development in an under-utilized part of the city centre and create 4,000 permanent jobs."

Nabarro has advised Hammerson, a long term client, on a range of projects in recent months including the planning consent for the £4.5bn Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration project and Hammerson's acquisition of a portfolio of six retail investment properties from St. Martins Property Investments ltd, one of the largest retail property acquisitions of the year so far.
