Nabarro advises on £55 million fundraising for IP Group plc
6 June 2011
Nabarro is advising existing client Numis Securities Limited on a £55 million placing and open offer to raise additional capital for IP Group plc.
IP Group plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange Main Market and invests in scientific innovation developed in the UK’s leading universities. The company's business model is to form, or assist in the formation of, spin-out companies based on that innovation, securing a significant, minority equity stake and then playing an active role in growing the business and investment.
The Group’s portfolio is diverse with exposure to five main sectors – energy & renewables, medical equipment & supplies, pharma & biotech, chemicals & materials and IT & communications. The net proceeds of the fundraising will be used to increase the Group's investments.
The Nabarro team advising Numis is led by corporate partner Alasdair Steele and includes senior corporate associate Ben Macdonald and corporate associate Sarah Etherington.
Commenting on the transaction, corporate partner Alasdair Steele said:
"It is pleasing to see that, despite difficulties in the market, there is still investor appetite for high quality companies investing in UK-based innovation and intellectual property. This placing continues an active period for the Nabarro ECM practice which has included the recently announced fundraisings by Sportingbet (£118.5m), Falkland Oil & Gas (£32m) and Eredene Capital (£30m)."
According to the latest rankings from Hemscott Nabarro is now listed in the top 20 law firms by number of clients in both the FTSE 250 and AIM markets.
