Lawyers from Nabarro’s Sheffield office helped a new client secure a key role in the £200million regeneration of council homes in Hull.
Kier Building Maintenance (KBM) the Kier Group’s social housing company, retained Nabarro to assist in the negotiation of a contract to upgrade and maintain 10,000 council homes in the city.
A team led by projects partner Karen Andrews helped seal a five-year contract worth £8million a year to Kier, one of two contractors appointed by Hull City Council.
Both companies will work alongside Kingstown Works Ltd, a new council controlled company to deliver a Decent Homes programme to around 28,000 properties.
KBM is already involved in similar projects in Sheffield and Sefton (Liverpool), delivering a Decent Homes strategy on behalf of Sheffield Homes and One Vision Housing.
“We have an in-depth understanding of both the social and commercial imperatives this type of regeneration project entails in relation, for example, to tenants’ needs and issue affecting transferring staff,” says Karen.
“We have seen the transformation that Kier are carrying out in Sheffield and were delighted to be appointed to help them continue that good work in Hull.”
Alastair Gamage, finance director for KBM North said that Nabarro had helped to deliver the contract quickly and effectively. He added: “Our decision to appoint Nabarro was influenced by its extensive experience in major regeneration projects of this type. We are pleased with its commitment to helping us contribute to the wider regeneration of Hull.”
