Ian Radford
Ian joined Nabarro as a Partner after working for 16 years – 14 as a partner – with another leading infrastructure and engineering practice.
He is a graduate of Cambridge University and has qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales, Hong Kong, and Queensland, Australia. His practice has for many years been centred on major capital investment projects, particularly in the power, water, oil & gas, and process engineering sectors. He has undertaken a wide variety of transactional, advisory, and dispute resolution work.
Ian’s experience includes:
- Advising and representing the project company in large-scale ICC arbitration proceedings concerning the development of a project-financed 1000MW CCGT power station in the Far East, procured through an EPC ‘turnkey’ contract based upon a heavily-amended FIDIC form
- Providing ongoing project advice to a key participant in the London Underground PPP
- Advising a substantial UK-based contractor/services provider in relation to a state-of-the-art £100m+ nuclear industry facility procured using strategic alliance and project partnering procurement methods
- Advising the procuring authority in relation to the construction aspects of a police station PFI project in the south of England
- Advising a major participant in the strategically-important Beijing 10 water pipeline and process plant BOT project
- Representing an Emirates-based offshore fabrication company in LCIA Arbitration proceedings arising out of the conversion of an old vessel into a permanent production facility moored off Abu Dhabi
- Representing a large international contractor in a contractual adjudication procedure conducted in Malaysia relating to the fabrication and installation of a deep-water production facility in the South China Sea
- Advising a multi-national oil/gas/petrochemical company in relation to a complex upgrade programme at a UK oil refinery: contract let on a bespoke form used by the client world-wide, but subject to extensive amendment to reflect local conditions
- Advising an international contractor/facilities manager over a 10 year period in relation to the engineering, procurement, construction and operation of a natural gas processing plant in Bangladesh
- Advising a range of international contractors on the avoidance and resolution of numerous major disputes (through mediation, adjudication and other forms of ADR) on various high-profile engineering projects procured on FIDIC-based forms
Ian has worked with world-renowned organisations on many more engineering, energy, and infrastructure projects - in the UK, the Middle East, and the Far East – for almost 20 years. He has written articles and presented papers to external seminars on topics as diverse as the Kyoto Protocol and the construction law aspects of infrastructure procurement for the Beijing Olympics.
