Martin Evans

Martin Evans is a Partner and the Head of our Planning Group. He has a 23 year track record of advising on all aspects of planning law including strategic advice on regeneration projects, local development frameworks, neighbourhood development planning, environmental assessment, outline and full applications, judicial review, simplified planning zones, local development orders, compulsory purchase, complex planning and highways agreements, highways and other orders, appeals, called-in applications, public inquiries and examinations in public.

Martin’s clients include the UK's major development and property investment companies, local authorities, Government agencies, sports and leisure developers, retailers, housebuilders, warehouse clubs, education providers and infrastructure companies.
 
Martin has been ranked as a leading UK planning solicitor in the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners guides for the last 15 years. In its 2012 guide Chambers and Partners commented that "interviewees compliment practice leader Martin Evans on his responsive attitude and grasp of planning law" and in its earlier editions of their guide confirmed that sources say Martin is "practical and commercial" and "disciplined and clear in his advice but most importantly he is able to think strategically about the whole process". The Legal 500 has commented that Martin "adopts a very considered approach and is thorough but easy to work with".

Martin’s recent track record includes:

  • Hammerson, Standard Life and Brookfield Europe – acting on the Brent Cross/Cricklewood regeneration scheme, London’s largest private sector urban regeneration project. Permission issued in 2010.
  • Project Blue Guernsey Limited – acting for the developers of the Chelsea Barracks site in London. This will be the UK’s most valuable residential scheme. Planning permission was issued in December 2011.
  • SEGRO – acting on its application for permission for 1.3m square feet of office development at the Slough Trading Estate and on other major commercial development schemes.
  • Onslow (Suffolk) Limited – acting in successfully securing permission from the Secretary of State for the Snoasis winter sports leisure scheme near Ipswich. This project will be the largest indoor winter sports resort in the world.
  • Long Port Group – acting on major new housing proposals at Wigan and Dawlish and on the Guernsey Data Park
  • Costco – acting on its warehouse club development portfolio in England and Wales.
  • Hammerson – acting in securing planning permission for its major city centre mixed use regeneration schemes for the Eastgate and Harewood Quarter in Leeds and Sevenstone in Sheffield and on its 60 Threadneedle and 125 Old Broad Street office scemes in the City of London.
  • The Spitalfields Development Group – acting in securing permission for the Bishops Square mixed use scheme in the City on the site of the former western part of Spitalfields Market.
  • Hark Group – acting in connection with the “Round” masterplan for Telford Town Centre.
