Louise Gellman is a partner in our Intellectual Property (IP) group and heads our filing and prosecution practice. She has more than 13 years' experience and handles a range of IP matters for her established corporate clients. She specialises in trade mark law, advising in relation to the protection, exploitation and enforcement of trade mark rights.
Louise prosecutes trade mark applications at the UK Registry, at the Community Trade Mark Office and using the Madrid Protocol system, and deals with oppositions and revocations. She advises clients in relation to worldwide and European re-branding programmes, carries out the associated trade mark clearance and manages the subsequent filing programmes and resulting portfolios. She also advises on the trade mark aspects of marketing and advertising campaigns.
Louise advises on and drafts a variety of commercial agreements and arrangements, including licensing, agency, distribution and confidentiality agreements. Louise advises on the IP aspects of large corporate and banking transactions, often involving large portfolios of registered rights.
Louise has an international practice and she is regularly instructed by top IP firms in the US, Canada, Australia, Europe and elsewhere. Her clients include UK, European and international brand owners from a wide variety of vertical industry sectors including finance, food and beverages, not-for-profit, hotel and leisure, fashion and retail. Louise protects her clients' brands globally, instructing lawyers all over the world.
Louise has a reputation for creative thinking and pragmatism in relation to UK and Community Trade Mark filing and opposition work. She is a regular commenter in industry press, with several recently published articles including in Trademark World.
