State Aid

Providing in-depth experience and expertise in this specialised area

Our team advise public sector clients on many aspects of state aid and its relation to the EU public procurement rules. On the project side, we offer practical advice on structuring grants and other subsidies to manage state aid issues and also advise recipients of grant funding on the use of such funds, for example to procure innovation centres.

We can help with state aid compliance programmes and internal audits. We have a good working relationship with specialists at the Department of Trade and Industry’s state aid policy unit and with the Department for Communities and Local Government, as well as with officials in DG Competition at the European Commission.

We can help draft and prepare notifications to the European Commission for the authorisation of state aid. We can also represent organisations that are subject to a state aid complaint before the European Commission.

One of our partners, Cyrus Mehta, chairs the CBI’s state aid group, and is closely involved in working with the DTI and European Commission on state aid policy reforms. Cyrus is therefore ideally placed to give up-to-date specialist and strategic advice.
