Defamation/Privacy Dispute Resolution
We have experts well-versed in handling these sensitive issues
We have a number of experts in defamation, confidentiality and privacy.
In defamation, we have represented a wide range of clients, including a leading broadsheet newspaper and a major university. We have also advised on the content of controversial media campaigns. We have acted for both claimants and defendants. Many cases are now resolved without the need to involve the courts. Recently, much of our work has involved defamation over the internet and has had an international element to it, raising issues of jurisdiction and substantial publication. We were involved in one of the leading cases in this developing area of the law.
Confidentiality and privacy now often go hand in hand. Our work has included claims about breach of confidentiality obligations under contract and in equity. We have also acted in a case concerning the legality of undercover video footage which had been published on the internet. Many of these cases involve injunctions - either applying for them or seeking to have them discharged. A significant amount of our work has also concerned advising on the validity and extent of confidentiality restrictions to avoid disputes arising.
