Our Health Claims team is one of the largest in the UK, with a reputation for delivering sound timely advice and particular expertise in large-scale litigation, multi-party actions and group actions.

The team now sits within the firm's northern dispute resolution section, which has eight Partners and over 40 Lawyers, providing a range of health, property and commercial dispute resolution services. The teams focus remains on large self insured, public sector bodies and international clients.

The team is best known for its work for the Department of Energy and Client Change (formerly DTI) defending liabilities arising from the former nationalised mining industry. This includes the vibration white finger and respiratory disease miners’ schemes, which together have over 600,000 claims with an estimated value of over £8bn.

Our other clients include Atos Origin, Extrata Group Plc, GE, Wholefoods Market Inc, OSL Group Ltd, UK Coal Mining Ltd, Treasury Solicitors and Lafarge.

We focus on providing strategic, practical and cost-effective advice. We are experts in handling a wide variety of occupational disease claims, including respiratory disease, upper limb disorders, asbestos related disease, noise induced hearing loss, stress and osteo-arthritis. We are also renowned for dealing with representative actions, group litigation, statutory and non-statutory compensation schemes. We also handle health related claims arising out of product liability/recall issues.

As well as acting in mainstream dispute resolution, we also help clients manage risks and avoid disputes by advising on potential health and insurance-related matters in corporate acquisitions, corporate restructuring, government and projects.
