  • Hit the “Friends only” button for now: Germany considers ban on using Facebook for recruitment decisions  
Germany is considering a law that would ban employers from looking for information about job candidates from social network sites such as Facebook. According to a draft of the bill, employers would be able to use publicly accessible information about applicants drawn from the internet but not from social networking sites that serve “communication purposes”. The aim of the draft act is apparently to stop private information becoming public. View full briefing

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has recently ruled that the part payment of salaries in retail vouchers is a supply for consideration by the employer to the employee for VAT purposes, and is therefore subject to VAT.  View full briefing

The government has confirmed it is set to abolish the UK's statutory default retirement age (DRA) of 65 from 1 October 2011. Transitional measures will be in place from 6 April 2011.  View full briefing
